Dirty Freq's Halloween Special W/ Nicky Blackmarket 18/10/08

So a review then….I’m not particulary good at writing things like this but I will give it my best shot seeing as there is no one else that can be arsed to do it! First and foremost I want to comment on the atmosphere, It was electric inside the Mill on Saturday night. I mean the atmosphere at every Dirty Freq’s is 10 times as lively as anywhere else in Mansfield but on Saturday it was a different story everyone was up for a good old dance pretty much all night long (apart form the odd excursion outside for a cigarette of course, damn smoking ban!)

Two other things that need to be mentioned in this review are that the event was being broadcast 100% live via both video and audio stream on http://www.afterdarkradio.info and also our resident soundsystem was rolling inside provided by the one and only Velocity Sounds (nice one luke!)

The Night started out with the sounds of Lupy (velocity sounds) and Shorty (Dirty Freq’s of course!) Back to back playing dubstep and they did not disappoint. Playing an eclectic montage of various styles of Dubstep culminating in some real wobbly business aimed directly at the dancefloor.  By the time these two had finished the floor was beginning to move nicely.

Second up on the ones and two’s was Mr. Jungleman rolling out his own style of liquid and rolling Drum & Bass complete with a few dubplates thrown in for good measure and by this point he dancefloor was really starting to move and there were plenty of people enjoying the sounds coming from the speakers!

Next up it was supposed to be the Brighton trio of Devastate, MC Double J & Skitz but unfortunately due to reasons beyond his control Devastate was unable to make the trip. In his place however were his two worthy replacements  and with the complimentary sounds of Double J & Skitz.  Starting with Chase & Status’s hit Pieces which was met with an excellent response from the dancefloor. They then carved their ways through various smashers keeping the dancefloor nicely bubbling for the duration of there set.

Finally the time had come for the man that needs no introduction of course it was the man, the legend, Nicky Blackmarket!! And to be quite honest this was easily one of the best sets I have ever heard him play.  The man has so many white labels infact every record in his bag was a white label (some of which I tried to lay claim to much to Nicky’s dislike! Very Happy) Clipz – Offline VIP, Friction - 3rd Degree Gurns VIP/rmx  a long with some golden oldies and signature Nicky Blackmarket smashers. The unfortunate thing was that it came around and passed so quickly!

Last but not least it was myself on the decks, the Hoax of course! Playing my usual style of filthy rolling Drum & Bass mixed with the best of every other sub genre as neatly and tidily as I possibly could and a set with which I was ultimately happy with and with the expected screams of one more from the crowd I kindly obliged, twice!

So what more can I say apart from we at Dirty Freq’s are extremely happy with the way things went on Saturday night and also with the way the event has grown over the last year! Most of all though we would like to thank everyone who attends Dirty Freq’s every month as its you that make it all possible, and its you that give us the drive to bring big DJ’s to Mansfield and consistently give you an alternative to everything else that Mansfield has to offer music wise. THANK YOU ALL!!!!!
